Barrackpore The name Barrackpore may have originated from the English word barracks, as it was the site of the first cantonment of the British East India Company. Alternatively, the Ain-i-Akbari suggests that the name comes from "Barbakpur"
It is a very old city. Before British Empire here ruled East India Company, then the their soldiers of create a barrack that is Barrackpore. Then there was a zoo, it was 2nd in the world and 1st in Asia continent. Before 1911 Barrackpore was very important city. 1st sahid Mongal Pandey of Sipahi Bidraha in Barrackpore in 1857.
